Appraisal of the Management Consulting Services rendered by Dr. Horst W. Kötting and his team for Siemens TS MT, Erlangen
- Project I: Management Consulting for the President, Mass Transit (MT) Division Siemens Transportation Systems (TS): Subject: Project Management of Critical Projects
- Project II: Establishment and Management of a Project Management Section at TS MT
After a 2-day selection process, the Explovision Ltd team, under the leadership of Dr. Horst Werner Koetting, was awarded the contract of consulting the MT Executive Management in its endeavor to establish a professional Project Management and Systems Engineering competence within TS MT organization. The consulting work was performed in the timeframe of 11. June 2004 till 31. May 2005.
The work of the Explovision Ltd team focused on:
- Review of the existing internal PM processes
- Identification of improvement potential and introduction of innovative PM processes
- Optimizing of the complete PM scenario, considering the specific product requirements of MT
- Improvement of project performance within critical projects
- Management of the newly established section “Project Management” by Dr. Koetting, awaiting the appointment of a suitable Siemens manager for this position. As the manager of TS MT PM, Dr. Koetting defined and introduced professional Project Management and Systems Engineering processes suitable for the MT organization.
- Conducting PM and SE training seminars as well as coaching MT management personnel
The objectives of this consulting project were defined together with the MT Executive Management, assuring unique and verifiable project requirements. The results of this consulting project were verified through predefined project milestones, based on a project PERT plan. At the end of the project, the MT Executive Management verified the accomplishment of all project deliverables as being delivered as required and “in time”.
Due to his integrity, competence and management skills, Dr. Koetting was appointed permanent member of the MT Executive Management Board. He was highly respected within the organization and consequently able to influence many internal processes decisively. A QM-Audit of the TS organization certified the performance of his team and his leadership as “excellent”.
In summary, I like to state that the contribution of Dr. Koetting in stabilizing the project business of TS MT as well as improving the PM methodologies and tool scenario were important to the TS organization.
